Designer's Edge International, Kokoro High end professional Hair cutting shearsSteel:

The same Japanese steel, 440C, is used in the Kokoro shears, whether it be a $165 or a $645 shear. The consistency insures that all of our shears hold their edges, not just the expensive ones.

Rockwell:

The Rockwell of all Kokoro shears is 61. This is a standard of excellence that most quality shears aspire to. The hardness of our metal is why Kokoro shears hold their edge. Other lines may have some models that are 61, but most likely have styles that are 59/60. With Kokoro, you can you be sure of what you are buying.

Vacuum Heated Forged Blades:

All of Kokoro blades are forged, rather than cast. Many companies still cast by hot injection pressing (HIP) to make their blades. Forging insures better consistency and a harder finished product. Vacuum heating contributes to the better consistency of the metal.

Hollow Ground:

All of Kokoro blades are of the concave style that is typically referred to as “Japanese”.

Hand Tooling:

Depending on the series, there is some degree of hand tooling that contributes to the excellence and the cost of the shear. Our black series, at $169, are virtually machine made. Our Silvers and Golds are 100% hand tooled, thus the costs of $559 and $679, respectively.
